Overview
This album has to be one of the best of the '90s, if not of all time. There isn’t a single song that doesn’t deserve a listen. Understandably, it might not suit everyone’s taste due to its heavy sound and intense themes of drugs and depression, but I feel everyone needs to give it a chance and uncover the true musical brilliance it holds. Singer Layne Staley is at his absolute best here, despite being high on heroin throughout the recording process. Writer and guitarist Jerry Cantrell is in top form, producing excellently written songs with incredible guitar riffs to match. As highly rated as this album is, I still think it deserves more appreciation - this is iconic.
Recommended for Grunge lovers looking for a dark and depressive breakthrough into the Metal universe.

This album screams '90s - the font, the colour scheme, the styling… it just completely works for me. Supposedly, the woman shown within the dirt is open to the viewer's interpretation as to whether or not she is dead - I would argue, after listening, that she’s probably dead. But this album gives me life, so who knows how we interpret it.
