Overview
This is a radical departure from the classic, dense, guitar-heavy shoegaze sound Slowdive is known for - instead, they’ve moved towards a more Ambient Electronic, minimal, and experimental approach. This album draws listeners into a deeply immersive experience, with its focus on Ambient soundscapes that emphasise space and mood over melody, creating a work that will captivate anyone who listens closely. Rather than relying on traditional song structures, Slowdive uses repetition and subtle sonic shifts to build tension and evoke a different kind of emotion than fans might not be used to. If you come into this record expecting another Slowdive classic, you might feel disappointed, but open your mind to its experimental boundaries, and you’ll appreciate its greatness.

With the album shifting to an experimental Ambient Electronic sound, the choice to use a graphic notation of the electronic composition ‘Artikulation’ was a great one. However, my issue with the cover is that it lacks any real sense of engagement. While the concept behind it is interesting, I ultimately find it rather boring.
