Overview
Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s fifth album is a masterful blend of introspection and vibrant musicality, capturing the duality of melancholy and warmth with remarkable finesse. It feels almost like a sun-drenched road trip through memory, with its mix of woozy psychedelia, funky rhythms, and tender melodies creating a truly unique and immersive soundscape that only Ruban Nielson could imagine. What sets ‘V’ apart is its ability to balance accessibility with depth. The grooves immediately captivate and invite listeners, while the layered instrumentation and intriguing lyrical content offer plenty to unpack. This is a highly intricate record that still manages to provide plenty of listenable and exciting tunes and so is well worth the listen - open your eyes and your ears.
Recommended for laid-back types looking for a psychedelic joyride.

A clean and stylish album cover that doesn’t give much away, but it doesn’t have to. A simple title to represent the band's fifth release, featuring a cool-looking cat with a nice colour palette, is all you need. I am curious whether this kid is actually behind glass or about to be devoured… maybe we’ll find out with release number six.
