Overview
I was hesitant to listen to the second chapter of Van Halen’s musical history, as I thought there was no beating Diamond Dave’s vocals and stage presence; but I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, they kept with the 80s synth aspect to their sound (which didn’t always disappoint), but I more enjoyed the moments of Eddie’s killer guitar parts and classic rock sound. Overall, it was great introduction for Sammy Hagar into the band, and I’m keen to hear what else they have on offer - although I don’t know if it will beat David Lee Roth and co.‘s earlier index. 80s definitely wasn’t my favourite period of music, but this album has some good takeaways, I just can’t get over the cheesy 80s theme I hear throughout.
Recommended for Gen X 80s music lovers that still think the 80s had the best sound.

It’s an interesting cover, and I think it suits the music pretty well - cheesy and slightly dated, but still somewhat iconic and memorable, especially within the Van Halen fan base. Let’s be honest, Van Halen doesn’t have the strongest album artwork in general.
